Medical
Program
The Medical Program provides
medical, dental and nutritional assistance to strengthen the
children physically. Teams set up clinics in orphanages to
care for the children in cooperation with Christian clinics
alongside local doctors. Medical seminars are given at the
children’s hospitals on topics of interest to the medical
community. Dr. Jim Miller, a pediatrician, and his wife, Jane
have traveled on four UCP team mission trips to help meet
the medical needs of the children. Their compassion for the
children and the workers has inspired local doctors to contribute
to their efforts.
Team Mission Program
One
of the ways we minister to the children is through our Team
Mission Program which takes volunteers into the orphanages
for two week trips. This gives us the opportunity to reach
out to the children individually spending time with them for
a week at a time. During the trips we have different projects
that the team members are involved in from medical, dental
clinics to repairs in the orphanage or delivering humanitarian
aid. The Team Mission Program provides you an opportunity
to directly effect the children’s lives personally.
Container Program
The
Container Program is set up to collect, package and send supplies
to Ukrainian orphanages to meet some of the physical needs.
These containers are received by our Ukrainian organization,
Children are our Hope, and distributed by volunteers directly
to the children. Our main focus has been to send food, vitamins,
medical supplies, medical equipment, clothing and toys.
Education
Program
Our
Education Program is centered on the fundamental principle
that each child has an essential role in transforming the
nation Ukraine in God’s providence. The children grow
to understand that God loves them and is empowering them to
fulfill His plan for their lives. UCP does this by volunteers
giving of their time to teach at the orphanages to inspire
the children and impart to them a vision for their nation.
Our help improves education to enable the children to leave
the orphanage with a skill and to offer opportunity to get
a higher education at a Ukrainian University.
Volunteer
Program/Helping Hands
We
now have eight volunteers working with Ukraine Children's
Project in the US and twelve in Ukraine. We never cease to
be amazed by the enthusiasm and vitality our volunteers bring
to the projects and missions. It is true to say that without
the assistance and support of our volunteers much of our work
would be impossible. The activities undertaken by our volunteers
this year include:
- In-orphanage
work for a week or two at a time
- Administrative
help in the office
- Trip
coordination and container distribution
-
Packing and labeling sea containers for distribution
-
Sending out newsletters and other mailings
- UCP
particularly wishes to acknowledge the help and support
of Dennis Ferguson who has faithfully worked in the office
over the past three years.
Christian Ministry Program
Christian
ministry is the heart of the work of UCP. Every aspect of
serving the children provides us with an opportunity to share
God’s love by meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual
needs of deprived children. Our Christian Ministry Program
is teaching the children and the orphanage workers that they
have infinite value in God’s eyes. (Matthew 28:20)
Gifts in Kind Program
There
are two aspects of the Gifts in Kind Program. The first is
giving donations to the Container Program to directly assist
orphanages, collecting items such as winter clothes, shoes,
medicine, vitamins and other supplies needed by the children
for everyday life. One example of this kind of giving is making
blankets through a sewing club or church group to give to
the children. Project Linus has generously given quilts to
UCP to take to the children.
The
second aspect of Gifts in Kind is giving of your talents.
One example of this is the photography of Don Monteaux to
UCP. Don has traveled to Ukraine on two trips in six different
cities photographing the faces of Ukraine. He exhibited his
work at a gallery in Virginia Beach to raise awareness and
interest in the needs of the children.
Puppet
Ministry
Our
Ukrainian puppet ministry team has been to six orphanages
since the American team left. Alina, our ministry coordinator
gives her account from one trip to an orphanage:” It
was a real blessing for every place! All the kids as well
as the directors and the teachers were delighted by the show
and the gifts we brought to every place. Many believers come
to the orphanages with the Bible lessons, but it was for the
first time the children could hear and SEE the Christmas story
told by the puppets. We had a feeling the kids even forgot
to breathe: they were carried away by the story.”
